“For the LORD had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom.”
Scripture reveals that no matter how carefully wicked plans are devised, they cannot withstand God’s providence. The Lord actively directs, overturns, and frustrates those who oppose His will. This truth offers hope to believers, reminding us that God’s sovereignty shields us from evil.
2 Samuel 17:14–15 shows God’s providence guiding events during Absalom’s rebellion. While Ahithophel’s advice was wise and strategically sound, Scripture says, “For the Lord had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel to bring disaster on Absalom.” No matter how brilliant human wisdom is, it cannot succeed when God has other plans. His providence ensures that wicked schemes fail under His sovereign authority.
In Exodus 15:9–19, we read the song of Moses after Israel’s deliverance at the Red Sea. As Pharaoh’s army pursued them, their boast was, “I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil.” To human eyes, Israel appeared trapped with Pharaoh’s victory seemingly assured. But God in His divine providence intervened parted the Red Sea, enabling His people to cross on dry ground. What seemed an unstoppable force was swiftly overturned by God’s mighty power.
God’s providence guides His people and actively thwarts the schemes of the wicked. He is both Protector and Judge, ensuring evil does not prevail over His divine purpose.
Instead of fearing opposition, trust in God’s provision and guidance. When faced with injustice or hostility, remember that the same God who drowned Pharaoh’s army and stopped Absalom’s rebellion is watching over you. Human schemes are temporary, but God’s counsel endures forever, and your life is in His caring hands.
