Scripture: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.” — Matthew 6:6

The verse comes within Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is addressing religious practices being done for public attention rather than genuine devotion to God.

So the context is not that public prayer itself is wrong. Jesus Himself prayed publicly at times. The issue was motive, people using spiritual acts to gain visibility, admiration, or perceived holiness.

One of the greatest dangers in today’s culture is confusing visibility with spirituality. It is possible to appear deeply connected to God publicly while remaining distant from Him privately.

Jesus consistently emphasized devotion over outward performance. He pointed His followers toward the quiet moments where no audience exists and no applause is given.

Intimacy with God is formed in places that often go unseen: in prayer, in surrender, in repentance, in obedience, and in stillness before Him.

God is not searching for polished performances. He desires hearts that genuinely seek Him.
The truth is, what sustains public faithfulness is private communion. A believer who neglects intimacy with God may still maintain an image for a while, but eventually emptiness reveals itself.

Today is an invitation to return to the quiet place. Not to perform for God, but to be with Him.
